It’s another 13 days to go for England to launch their campaign to undo history. Never before in the history of the tournament has the English side won the cricket World Cup, starting in 1975. They reached the final thrice — in 1979, 1987 and 1992 — but failed to cross the final hurdle every time. The 12th edition of the tournament starting May 30, however, gives the Three Lions their best opportunity for not only the World Cup happening at home but also because they are the top-ranked side in the ODIs at the moment.

England’s supporters as well former cricketers are ecstatic at the moment hoping to see Eoin Morgan’s side lifting the trophy in the balcony of Lord’s on July 14 when the final will be played. Among the former England cricketers who are harbouring much hope about the side is Michael Vaughan, one of the most popular cricketing brains on social media.

Vaughan, who led England in the 2007 World Cup, on Friday shared a picture on his Instagram account showing a list of names jotted down on a piece of a paper. Vaughan was trying to set up England’s all-time ODI team and there were more names that the scribbling showed that he could not accommodate in the side. And as it is often with such cases, the fans did not agree with his pick of players in the all-time XI.

Morgan leads the side that has in likes of Roy, Bairstow, Buttler, Botham

The former batsman, who now chips in as a commentator and analyst, picked Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow as the openers of the team followed by Joe Root. Former captain Kevin Pietersen was at No.4 and Morgan, the skipper of the side, at No.5. Dashing batter Jos Buttler was at No.6 and the next three places were occupied by three all-rounders in Moeen Ali, Ian Botham and Andre Flintoff. The final two places saw spinner Adil Rashid and former pacer Darren Gough.

Vaughan also scribbled names of the reserve bench and it included the likes of Marcus Trescothick, Allan Lamb, Graeme Swann, Neil Fairbrother, Derek Pringle and Graham Gooch, whose name he penned twice.
