Former Australia cricketer Mike Hussey says that if AB de Villiers plays the longest form of cricket again, he would be surprised. Hussey feels that de Villiers would be too eager to concentrate on winning an ODI World Cup instead of playing Tests.

South Arica have been the unluckiest team when it has come to their fate in the ODI World Cup which they haven’t managed to win in two decades.  They have had to endure three World Cup semi-final defeats and a tie on home soil in 2003 due to rain. This is why the South African ace is too desperate to lift the cup before he puts curtains on his career.

De Villiers will captain the Proteas in the Champions Trophy next month and will give in his all to untag South Africa as chokers.

“I caught up with him while I was in India (commentating the IPL) and he’s desperate to win a tournament with South Africa in one-day cricket,” Hussey told cricket.com.au. “He thinks they can win a World Cup, so this is like a mini-World Cup and it’s what’s driving him in his cricket career at the moment.”

Hussey feels that when a classy batsman like AB looks so hungry for a cup, the opposition are ought to be intimidated.

“When you’ve got such a quality player that’s highly motivated, personally and for the team, then that’s a pretty dangerous combination for the opposition.”

Although he has endured a poor run in IPL 10 with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, there is no denying the fact that he is one of the greatest ODI players of all time.

In the Champions Trophy, South Africa are placed in group B, the same as India. They play their tournament opener against Sri Lanka on June 3, followed by a match against Pakistan (7 June) and India (11 June).
