Minor picked by police for giving rape threats to MS Dhoni's daughter on social media
A minor boy from Kutch has been picked by the police for allegedly issuing rape threats on Instagram to the five-year-old daughter of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
In a horribly disturbing incident, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s daughter received rape threats on social media following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) 10-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday. Furthermore, MS Dhoni’s wife Sakshi Dhoni was also dragged into the unrelated incident and she found herself on the receiving end of severe hate and trolls on social media platforms.
Following the regrettable and unprecedented incident, a 16-year-old boy from Mundra in Kutch has been picked by the police for allegedly issuing rape threats on Instagram to the five-year-old daughter of MSD. The minor boy, identified by the police to be a resident of Mundra village, was booked based on the lead given by the Ranchi Police, who have been investigating the case ever since Tuesday. As per the Kutch-Bhuj Police, the minor has allegedly confessed to having posted the threats using his Instagram account.
In a statement given to Indian Express by Saurabh Singh, superintendent of police, Kutch Bhuj, he stated, “Ranchi Police is investigating this case. They informed us on Sunday that an accused who made certain comments on Instagram had been traced to Mundra in Kutch. We picked up the juvenile today and in our interrogation, he has confessed to having posted those comments after CSK lost a match to KKR.”
“Since he is a minor, we cannot arrest or detain him without charges as per the juvenile justice Act. So we are waiting for Ranchi Police to arrive in Kutch, after which we will hand him over to them,” Singh added.
CSK’s performance woes
Renowned as one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the MS Dhoni-led side has been having a tough time in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this year. Having lost 5 out of their 7 league games hitherto, the Yellow Army has pushed itself into a position where they will have to win most of their remaining encounters to keep their coveted tag of consistency secure. Notably, the Chennai-based franchise has never missed a playoff berth in the history of the league.
The game of cricket is often regarded as a religion in the land of India and the ardency and love in the heart of fans make them preach their cricketing heroes like Gods. However, some of the so-called supporters of the game often stoop low and forget the boundaries of courtesy when the players are unable to perform as per their expectations.
The performance of the team notwithstanding, targeting the daughter, wife, or any family member of any player for that matter is strictly unacceptable, and a condemnable act.
