Mitchell Marsh set to miss county stint with Surrey
Marsh has been in dismal form against South Africa in all departments.
Mitchell Marsh hasn’t been going through an impressive run of form in international cricket. The Australian all-rounder recently played in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa. He could neither create an impact with the willow, nor could he shine with the cherry in hand. He scored 176 runs at a mediocre average of 22 while he could only pick four wickets in as many games. His only major knock of 96 runs came at the Kingsmead in Durban in Australia’s only victory of the series.
As per reports in cricket.com.au, the Western Australian cricketer will be missing a significant part of his upcoming county stint with Surrey owing to an ankle injury. The all-rounder will now undergo an ankle surgery. The development comes as a body blow for Marsh as he was targeting his limited-over return in Australia’s upcoming tour of England in June where they will play five ODIs and a one-off T20I.
“Extremely disappointed”- Mitchell Marsh
Marsh sounded distraught about not being able to take part in the entire county season, however, vowed to make a strong comeback. “I’m extremely disappointed to be missing the start of the season. I was looking forward to heading over and joining the Surrey family. I’ll be doing everything I can to get myself fully fit and hopefully join the side later in the season” he said.
Few months earlier, Marsh opted out of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) in order to mark his comeback to the Australian team. However, the injury has sparked as a major roadblock to his upcoming endeavors. Meanwhile, Alex Stewart feared this to be a major blow for Surrey as well as for Marsh.
“This is a big blow for both Surrey and Mitch so close to the start of the English season but we wish Mitch all the best in his recovery,” he added.
