Mitchell Swepson will be an element of surprise for Indians says Steve Waugh
Mitchell Swepson, the 23-year-old will be touring India for the first time ever. The leg-spinner will be challenged by the formidable Indian batting line-up. While many have termed him as a rookie, former Australian captain Steve Waugh thinks that the leggy will be a surprise for the Indians. He also stated that they will be very much looking to play him in the first Test itself.
“Australia will be tempted to throw him in that first Test side because it does bring that element of surprise against the Indian batsman. They wouldn’t have seen much of him and they wouldn’t have planned too much against him.” Waugh was quoted by PTI as saying on Indian Express.
When asked about the same, Swepson is on a different track altogether. The 23-year-old is just thinking of getting a chance to feature in a game. He also believes that the Indians will be ready to play him and accused the videos, for the same. He said, “I don’t know about that (on Waugh’s comment). I hope I get a chance to play and I am sure they will do their research (against me and other bowlers). There is a lot of footage around these days.”
Bowling in Australia and bowling in India are as different as fire and water. The pitches in Australia don’t do that much for the spinners but Indian pitches are heaven for them. Only if you can adapt to the conditions well.
The youngster from Queensland also thinks the same. He is finding the subcontinent wickets challenging. “You can’t bowl there like you bowl in Australia. I will have to change my game slightly and that is what we have been doing here in Dubai. The wickets here has been challenging both to bowl on and bat. We know it is going to be challenging there and have prepared accordingly,” Swepson added.
