Mithali Raj named the captain as ICC release team of the ICC Women's World Cup 2017

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the team of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 today. It is an incredible moment for Team India skipper Mithali Raj who has been named the captain of the team. The first batsman in the history of Women’s cricket Mithali Raj led her team by example to the finals of the 2017 World cup. Apart from her excellence as a captain, Raj was flamboyant with the willow in hand throughout the series. Scoring a total of 409 runs in the tournament she earned herself a well-deserved spot in the side.

The team:

Mithali Raj also scored a heroic hundred against the Kiwis which saw her team through to the semis. She scored a staggering 109 runs in that inning. The team featured four players from the victorious England side. Tamsin Beaumont, who was declared as the player of the tournament for her 410 runs in the campaign was an obvious choice while team mates Anya Shrubsole, wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor and left-arm spinner Alex Hartley also found a place in the team.

Anya Shrubsole was the star of the final as she picked up 6 wickets to bundle the Indians short of their target. Apart from Mithali Raj, there were two other Indians in the team in the form of Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma. Harmanpreet Kaur played the inning of the tournament when he manhandled the Aussies to register a 171 run knock in the semi finals.

Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp and skipper Dane van Niekerk were the three selected from South Africa while Aussie all-rounder Ellyse Perry was successful in booking a berth for herself. Perry also had a journey to remember this time as she scored a staggering 404 runs and picked up 9 wickets in the tournament.
