Mithali Raj’s International career in numbers

The first thing that comes out from an Indian cricket fan’s mouth while talking about Women’s Cricket will be Mithali Raj’s name. That is the impact she made throughout her career by virtue of the records she created and the milestones she reached for India. After making her debut at a young of 16 years, Mithali served the nation for nearly 18 years as the premier batsman and a leader and stood out as an inspiration for many upcoming Women cricketers.

On the occasion of Mithali Raj’s 35th birthday, we look at her records and achievements in International cricket.

7 – Number of consecutive fifties in 2017 for Mithali Raj. She is the only Women player to score seven consecutive fifty-plus scores in ODI cricket.

16y 205d – Mithali Raj holds the record of the youngest centurion in Women’s ODI cricket. She scored 114* against Ireland in 1999 at the age of 16 years and 205 days. No player in Men’s ODI cricket scored a hundred at a younger age than Mithali. Shahid Afridi scored his maiden ODI ton at the age of 16 years and 217 days.

19y 254d – Mithali scored 214 against England at the age of 19 years and 254 days in a Test match in 2002. This makes her the youngest Women with a double century in Test cricket. Only Javed Miandad (19y 140d) scored a double ton at a younger age in Men’s Test cricket. This 214-run knock also made her the 3rd youngest player and youngest Indian to score a century in Women’s Test cricket.

21y 94d – At the age of 21 years and 94 days, Mithali became the youngest captain for India in Women’s ODI cricket in 2004. Later in 2005, she became the youngest captain for Indian Women in Test cricket at the age of 22 years and 353 days.

31 – Mithali Raj’s 31 World Cup matches are the joint 3rd most for any player in Women’s cricket. She led India in 21 games in the tournament which are the 2nd most. Mithali also featured in 21 WT20 games leading India in 13 of them. She has the highest among all the above four mentioned among the Indian players.

55 – Mithali’s 55 fifty-plus scores in ODIs are the joint-most along with Charlotte Edwards in Women’s cricket. Mithali has six centuries and 49 fifties in her ODI career. The 49 fifties are the most for any player in Women’s ODI matches.

109 – Her 109 ODI appearances as captain are the 2nd most in Women’s cricket behind Charlotte Edwards’ 117. She led India in 57 consecutive games between 2004 and 2008 which are the joint 2nd most consecutive games in which a captain led her team in Women’s ODI cricket.

186 – Her 186 ODI appearances are the most by any player in Women’s cricket. She featured in 109 ODI matches in a succession played by India between 2004 and 2013 which is a record in Women’s ODI cricket for representing the team in most consecutive games.

214 – Mithali’s 214 against England in 2002 was then the highest individual score in Women’s Test cricket. She is the only Indian Women with a double century in Test cricket till date. Pakistan’s Kiran Baloch went past Mithali’s 214 by scoring 242 in 2004 against Windies.

1139 – She is one of the five players with 1000+ runs in the Women’s World Cup (1139 runs) and has the 4th most runs (619 runs) in the Women’s World T20.

1708 – Runs Mithali scored in T20I cricket so far. These are the most by an Indian and 7th most for any player in Women’s T20I format.

6190 – Mithali Raj is the only player in Women’s cricket with 6000 ODI runs. She went past Charlotte Edwards’ tally of 5992 runs during the WWC 2017.

8561 – Mithali’s 8561 runs in International cricket are the 2nd most for any player after Charlotte Edwards’ 10273 runs in Women’s Cricket.
