Mohammad Amir is trying to blackmail PCB to make a comeback: Danish Kaneria

Mohammad Amir left the cricket world in shock by announcing his sudden retirement from international cricket last year. Moreover, the veteran pacer made several massive allegations against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the team management, saying that he took the major decision under mental pressure. While several members of the cricket fraternity supported Amir in this episode, some have also been against him. Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria indeed belongs to the latter category.

Kaneria slammed Amir with strong words and even claimed that the pacer was trying to blackmail PCB to make a comeback in the national team. Amir, in a recent interview, made some more allegations against PCB and also slammed the selection policy. Moreover, his future plans of staying in England also attracted attention from many quarters. Referring to the 29-year-old’s recent statements, Kaneria opined that the speedster is blackmailing PCB.

“I am taking nothing away from Mohammad Amir. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I feel he is trying to blackmail others with his statements so that he can make a return to the side. From his comments on moving to England and getting citizenship and playing the IPL, you can understand his headspace,” Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Kaneria further said that PCB was kind to give Amir a chance despite the pacer’s involvement in the infamous match-fixing scandal in 2010. He also said that Amir didn’t do well after the 2017 Champions Trophy and the selectors were right to drop him from some series.

“Mohammad Amir should realize that Pakistan were really kind to bring him back after his spot-fixing scandal. But his performance over the last 1.5 years has been absolutely zero. Agreed he bowled really well in the ICC Champions Trophy, but since then he has been on a steep decline,” Kaneria pointed out.

Meanwhile, Amir is currently in England and will continue his stint in franchise cricket over the past few months. The veteran pacer will feature in the rescheduled Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 before joining up with Kent in this season’s Vitality Blast. He will also be a part of the London Spirit in the inaugural edition of The Hundred later this year.
