Mohammad Amir to make his CPL debut for Barbados Tridents
After international retirement, Amir is now focusing on franchise cricket.
Former Pakistan pace merchant Mohammad Amir is all set to make his debut in the upcoming 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. In a shocking development, Amir announced his retirement from international cricket for Pakistan in December last year. The big decision by the veteran speedster raised many eyebrows in the cricket fraternity as Amir was performing decently for the Men in Green.
Though the 29-year-old has pulled down curtains to his international career owing to his feud with Pakistan’s team management, the left-arm pacer continues to feature in the various T20 leagues across the globe. After international retirement, Amir is focusing on franchise cricket.
He will now be making his debut in the Caribbean Premier League as he has been signed by Barbados Tridents for the upcoming season that kicks off in St Kitts & Nevis in August 2021. The details regarding the same were provided on the official Twitter handle of the Caribbean Premier League
“BREAKING NEWS – The @BIMTridents have signed @iamamirofficial for CPL 2021 #CPL21 #CPLDraft #MohammadAmir #CricketPlayedLouder,” the tweet read.
Amir can prove to be a good signing for Barbados Tridents as the Pakistan-born comes with a lot of international experience under his belt. The 29-year-old has played a whopping 103 T20s thus far picking as many as 112 wickets at an economy rate of 7.10 and an average of 22.5. Notably, for CPL 2021 draft, Tridents have retained nine players from the previous edition while releasing as many as eight players.
Shoaib Malik to make a comeback for Guyana Amazon Warriors
Apart from Barbados Tridents, other franchises have also included some notable players in the squad ahead of CPL 2021. Guyana Amazon Warriors have again included the decorated all-rounder Shoaib Malik in their team for CPL 2021. Malik was one of the main reasons behind Guyana Amazon Warriors’ dream ride in the 2019 edition. The all-rounder played a key role in the team’s 11 consecutive victories in CPL 2019.
Additionally, leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has joined the Trinbago Knight Riders for the season. It will be his fourth CPL team. The leg-spinner has earlier plied his trade for teams like St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Barbados Tridents, and Jamaica Tallawahs in the last three seasons.
