Mohammad Hafeez deserves same status as that of Inzamam, Younis, and Misbah: Younis Khan
However, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja had some harsh words for Hafeez.
Mohammad Hafeez has been playing at the international level for a long time. The all-rounder started his career way back in the year 2003, and has represented his country for almost two decades. He has also accumulated some glittering numbers for Pakistan, especially in limited overs cricket.
Hafeez has represented his country in 218 ODI matches and has scored 6614 runs at an average of 32.91. He has also picked up 139 wickets in the ODI format. As far as T20Is are concerned, Hafeez is the highest run scorer for Pakistan alongside Shoaib Malik, and has plundered 2323 runs.
Even in Test cricket, the right hander has scored 3652 runs for Pakistan at an average of 37.65. And, with such glittering numbers in the international arena, Hafeez can qualify as one of the all-time greats of Pakistan cricket. And, Younis Khan is of the similar opinion on this matter.
Khan said that Hafeez deserves the same status that has been accorded to greats like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis and Misbah-ul-Haq. Pakistan’s highest run scorer in Tests also added that once Hafeez decides to hang up his boots, he will be given a grand send off, and the decision to retire completely rests with Hafeez. He also added that Pakistan would definitely miss Hafeez for the T20I series against South Africa.
“We would definitely miss him for the series against South Africa starting today (Thursday). Hafeez himself is the best judge in this regard. Once he decides on his retirement, we would be giving him a tremendous send-off. He deserves the same status that Inzamam, Younis, and Misbah received in the past. He has performed outstandingly so we will definitely miss him in the T20 series. He wants to play T20 World Cup or not, the decision rests with Hafeez now,” said Younis Khan as quoted in thenews.com.pk
One should think about Pakistan cricket instead of being selfish: Ramiz Raja on Mohammad Hafeez
However, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja has some harsh words for Hafeez, He has ripped apart the Pakistan all-rounder and has even termed him as a selfish cricketer. Raja was of the opinion that Hafeez is continuing to play the Abu Dhabi T10 league as his contract is still not over. Raja added that all the cricketers should be willing to adhere to the protocols even if it means there are last minute changes, and added that a selfish cricketer will not be backed.
“Among those playing in T10 League, Asif Ali is coming but not Mohammad Hafeez because he doesn’t want to end his contract. This shows the level of thinking because, considering the situation, we should be prepared to follow the necessary protocols even if there are last-minute changes. One should think about Pakistan instead of being selfish because nobody will back you,” said Raja.
