Mohammad Hafeez emerges as Pakistan’s highest paid cricketer
36-year old Pakistani veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez has emerged as the highest paid cricketer within the Pakistani cricket team. The report showed the salaries earned per annum by the Pakistan cricketers for the year 2015-16. The report went on to suggest that Hafeez pocketed almost 39 million Rupees paid to him by his employers – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The documents of the player salaries were sent over by the PCB to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination for the fiscal year 2015-16, it paid some 46 cricketers around 550 million rupees as their fees and bonuses for all formats of the game. With little or no surprises, the players who played all three formats last year were paid the highest.
Wicketkeeper-batsman and newly appointed T20I skipper Sarfraz Ahmed pocketed a reported sum of 33 million rupees. Shahid Afridi, who now represents Pakistan in only T20 cricket, earned approximately 18 million rupees.
Unlike the BCCI, the PCB does not award contracts based on player grades and representation of the country on tours. However, further reports go on to suggest that the PCB will be increasing the player fees as well as contract retainers for the players soon. In spite of this, some of the players have chosen not to disclose their payment and salary details.
