Mohammad Irfan and Shahzeb Hassan summoned by PCB's Anti Corruption Unit

The 2017 edition of the Pakistan Super League was full of controversies of spot-fixing and a new one has emerged recently when two players of Islamabad United were summoned by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) regarding the spot-fixing incident.

The fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and the opening batsman Shahzeb Hassan were inquired by the unit as the sources told The Express Tribune.

An unnamed PCB official revealed, “The ACU has summoned Shahzeb and Irfan for questioning in connection with the ongoing inquiry into the spot-fixing scandals”.

Earlier in a statement by the PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan during the tournament, Shahzeb was given clearance from the charges but was brought under the hammer once again.

Irfan, on the other hand, was constantly under the investigation for the entirety of the tournament and after the completion of the league has been called once more for questioning.

In a shocking turn of events midway through the tournament, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were suspended from playing after they were found guilty of breaching the anti-corruption code of the PCB. Both the players belong to the same Islamabad United team as well.

Quetta Gladiator’s left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar was also brought under investigation for the same infamous spot-fixing scandal but was allowed to play the remainder of the league post that.

Pakistan cricket has never been short of such controversies and many players have suffered bans from the game that extended to even imprisonments. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be an end to the intrusion of the fixing virus in the game.
