Dhaka Dynamites and Bangladesh paceman Mohammad Shahid has been ruled out of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2016-17 season after incurring an injury in his right knee during their match against holders Comilla Victorians last Saturday.
The 28-year old hurt his knee when he fell awkwardly in front of the boundary line following which he immediately left the field. The Narayanganj cricketer is likely to miss Bangladesh’s preparation camp in Australia ahead of their New Zealand tour as he has been advised to rest for at least two weeks.
According to the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, the right-arm pacer underwent a scan but more medical tests will be required to determine the duration of his rehabilitation process.
“Shahid had a scan [Sunday] after getting hurt last Saturday. We haven’t seen the report but we know it is a partial ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear. He has to rest for the next two weeks, during which he will receive treatment. Further tests will tell us what we should be doing in the coming weeks,” said Dr Debashish.
“A lot of the recovery process will depend on the player, but the rest period is pretty much same for everyone. But how the player reacts after the rest period depends on each individual,” he added.
Shahid, however, is still hopeful of returning to the Test side for the New Zealand series, scheduled to be held in mid-January next year.
He missed the recent Test series against England due to a side strain injury. The national selectors are yet to name his replacement.
“I will need rest for two weeks and then I will work for four weeks. I hope to play the Tests against New Zealand, I am not losing hope. I have enough time. I don’t want to miss the series, having already missed the England series,” said Shahid.
