Here is the Mohammad Shahzad version of the Helicopter Shot
Shahzad hit a quick 84 off 93 balls in Afghanistan's run chase of 204 in the finals against Windies.
Team Afghanistan have had a herculean rise in the world cricket. They recently beat the Windies in the finals of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. They had a dismal start to their tournament but the big names started to pick up as the tournament progressed. The likes of Mohammad Shahzad, Rashid Khan, and Dawlat Zadran came good at the times when it mattered the most.
Afghanistan had lost their first three matches of the Qualifiers and that had dented their chances of qualifying for the finals big time. They managed to scamper through to the Super Sixes somehow and there was no looking back since then. They beat the Windies in the Super Sixes encounter and then beat Ireland in a must win game to qualify for the World Cup 2019.
And for the formalities, they locked horns with the Windies again in the finals of the tournament and ended up beating the Men from the Caribbean for the second time in the span of a fortnight. Among the many stars of the team, one player who rose to the occasion when things mattered the most was Mohammad Shahzad. Shahzad struggled for his form throughout the tournament but ended up with two match winning fifties in the last two games.
He thoroughly entertained the fans with his exhibition of hard hitting. Shahzad, who has admitted to be a die hard fan of Indian cricketer MS Dhoni, played the signature MSD shots too. He played the Helicopter Shot, the iconic shot of MSD, with utmost perfection and a bit of improvisation. The best ones were seen in the finals against the Windies.
It was a delivery bowled by the Windies skipper Jason Holder that saw Mohammad Shahzad flick one over the mid-wicket boundary. The helicopter shot was there to be seen for all. Commenting on the final numbers, Shahzad hit a quick 84 off 93 balls in Afghanistan’s run chase of 204.
