Mohammed Shami honing his skills in the nets in his hometown
He would be keen to deliver the goods for his team in the longest format.
Mohammed Shami is in the middle of a tumultuous time in his career. The current year hasn’t given him much to cheer for owing to both his personal and cricketing career. Earlier in March, Hasin Jahan, Shami’s wife, accused him of domestic violence, delivering death threats, having extra-marital affairs and also for being involved in match-fixing scandals.
Shami’s contract for the national team was withheld by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) tried their hearts out to investigate the matter. In the meantime, Shami dismissed all the charges against him while Jahan stood her ground on her opinions on the right-arm Indian fast-bowler.
To Shami’s relief, he was given a clean chit and was presented a Grade B contract by the BCCI. He also played for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League, however, couldn’t make any impact with the leather. Subsequently, he was dropped from the team. He was included in the Indian squad for the historic Test match against Afghanistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The road ahead for Mohammed Shami
Nevertheless, he failed to clear the much-debated yo-yo test and was left out of the team. Navdeep Saini was called up as his replacement. Recently, he cleared the test this month and was roped in for India’s upcoming Test series against England. The first match will be played on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. For the time being the pacer is trying his level best to keep himself in good stead.
He wasn’t a part of the limited-overs team that played the ODI and T20I series and would be keen to deliver the goods for his team in the longest format. He took to Twitter and uploaded his picture where he can be seen in his bowling action.
He wrote, “Have a good session at town @circleofcricket @DelhiDaredevils @BCCI @ESPNcricinfo”
