Mohit Sharma reveals reason for his success in slog overs
The Kings XI Punjab are definitely having a horrendous run in this edition of the IPL. The only bright spot for them has been the two seam bowlers, Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma. With figures of 3/38 against the Mumbai Indians, pacer Mohit Sharma broke into the top 10 leading wicket takers in the season so far.
Mohit has been the most consistent bowler for Punjab when it comes to taking wickets, Sandeep Sharma has been economical. With 7 wickets in 6 matches at an economy of 7.64, he has been bowling well. Speaking to the iplt20.com, Mohit revealed the secret for his success in the death overs. He said the key has been mixing the slower deliveries and yorkers well.
“If the wicket is slow then you can bowl the slower balls because then the batsman doesn’t get pace [to use] and so it is not easy to hit that ball,” he said. “But if the wicket is good your slower ball doesn’t work and you would have to use your yorkers. You have to mix-up your deliveries,” he added.
He further said that he often simulates the match conditions at the nets to improve as a bowler. He concentrates on bowling slower ones, yorkers and the wide yorkers alike.
“During practice, while bowling the last 12 balls for slog overs, we bowl six slower balls with variations and then six balls we aim to bowl yorkers and then six balls as wide yorkers. So that consistency of bowling the one ball will be there so that helps in the match because you have been bowling just ball over and over again.”
