Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup 2017: Day 1 round-up

Moin-ud-Dowlah Gold Cup 2017 began on Tuesday after the HCA President G Vivekanand inaugurated the tournament at the Gymkhana Grounds. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) XI’s performance was the only major highlight during the first round games with the team’s captain Ambati Rayudu starring with a 33-ball fifty. Air India, led by Suresh Raina, featuring a couple of Indian players, will play their first game on Wednesday.

Hyderabad Cricket Association XI vs Andhra Colts:

Hyderabad Cricket Association XI made Andhra Colts pay for their decision of fielding first as the home side’s openers Akshath Reddy and Tanmay Agarwal put on a 209-run stand in just 36.5 overs. Akshath scored 113 off 109 balls with seven fours and five sixes while Tanmay scored 88.

HCA XI lost a couple of quick wickets after the huge stand but their captain Ambati Rayudu didn’t let the foundation go in vain as he struck a 33-ball fifty to take the side’s total past 300. He hit six sixes and two fours during his unbeaten 63-run knock coming in just 37 balls.

Andhra Colts were kept in the hunt by DB Ravi Teja’s unbeaten century as they stood 124 runs away from the win after 36 overs with five wickets in hand. But losing four wickets in the space of five overs tickled a collapse and they were 192/9 in no time. Ravi Teja decided to play out the 50 overs and remained unbeaten on 113 off 165 balls with 11 fours.

Hyderabad Cricket Association President’s XI vs Kerala Cricket Association:

Fifties from Fabid Farooq Ahmed and Rohan Kunnummel saw Kerala Cricket Association chase down the 232-run target set by the HCA President’s XI at Gymkhana. Opener Kunnummel scored 74 off 99 with five fours while their captain Fabid scored an unbeaten 89 off just 92 balls with six sixes to take their side home with 26 balls to spare.

The President’s XI were earlier bowled out for 234 on the very last ball of their innings. Mir Jaweed Ali scored a 65-ball 53 while Chandan Sahani and P Rohit Reddy scored 42 each to help their side reach a fighting total.

Vidarbha Cricket Association vs Goa Cricket Association:

Fifties from Sachin Kataria, Apoorva Wankhede, and captain Jitesh Sharma helped Vidarbha Cricket Association register a convincing win over Goa Cricket Association. After electing to bat first, Vidarbha overcame a slow start to post 242/4 in their 50 overs. Goa lacked the power hitting in the latter half of their innings after the top order made valuable contributions.

Baroda Cricket Association vs Combined Districts:

A collective batting effort from the Baroda Cricket Association handed them a huge 83-run win over the Combined Districts team. Baroda, who elected to bat first posted 289/9 in their 50 overs and restricted the opposition to 206/7. The Combined Districts’ opener T Sukanth scored 90 off 136 balls batting till the 46th over.
