Bangladesh may have lost the second Test match against Australia but young Mominul Haque and his batting skills still managed to shine through the massacre wreaked by off-spinner Nathan Lyon. The southpaw was seen middling the ball quite well in both the innings of the Chittagong Test and managed to score 31 and 29 respectively. However, he feels that had he stuck to the crease, he’d have been able to score centuries in each of the 2 innings.

Often considered as the nation’s brightest Test match player, Haque had been excluded from the 14-member squad for the opening Test of the series against Australia. This bizarre decision had created quite a stir and he was subsequently recalled for the 2nd Test after higher authorities in the governing body intervened.  The 25-year old has amassed 1748 runs in 23 matches of the longer format, at a healthy average of 46.

Mominul regrets having missed out on big scores

As reported by Cricbuzz, Mominul Haque regretted not having reached the three-figure mark in both the innings and said, “I missed century on both occasions. I was batting comfortably and hitting the balls quite fluently through the middle of the bat so it is disappointing not to translate those starts into a big hundred.”

Adding to his woes, Haque was pushed down the batting order in the 2nd innings of the Test and had to bat at No. 8, in order to make way for Nasir Hossain up the order. However, he feels this did nothing to hinder his motivation. “It’s true there was pressure but if you have the ability you can score anywhere. You need to make certain adjustments mentally when you are batting low in the order but you have to accept whatever is served. I think it was part of the game plan [to break the sequence of left-handers] and there is nothing more than that into it,” he stated.

It was Nathan Lyon who dismissed Haque on both occasions in the Chittagong Test. When asked if he considered it to be a weakness on his part to have been picked up by the same bowler twice, Haque dismissed the idea and said, “I don’t think about it that way (as a weakness) because the moment you start thinking in this manner you are creating pressure on yourself. But it was satisfying to execute my game plan against Lyon, though he had his last laugh on both occasions.”
