Most 50 plus scores in a calendar year by batsmen
Most 50 plus scores in a calendar year by batsmen: Batsmen score runs and convert them into milestones. Scoring a 50 in international cricket is indeed a milestone and scoring consecutives on the trot is another bigger achievement. This represents the purple patch of a batsman – A period of excellent performance, where nearly everything seems to go right, work properly, and contrasting with a more general lower level of performance. You score more freely, you are more confident, your every stroke pays off, home and away conditions do not necessarily make a difference and you are on peak of excellence.
Consistency is the main factor determining a batsman’s purple patch. Bowlers are rated on the basis of the wickets they take; similarly batsmen are rated on the basis of runs they score. Plus, how often they convert their 30s and 40s into 50s and even bigger – the hundreds.
Kumar Sangakkara has been in such great form in 2014 that he has scored over 25 fifty-plus scores this year, breaking the record of “Most 50+ scores in a calendar year” set by Ricky Ponting in 2005.
