The 16th edition of the Asia Cup is just a few weeks away as Pakistan and Sri Lanka are set to co-host the continental tournament after much deliberation. Sri Lanka, who won the last edition, will face stiff competition from Pakistan and India in their title defense.
Asia Cup has witnessed several great batters compile glorious innings for their respective side in the history of the competition. While a batter's run-making ability often typifies their success in a tournament, centuries put them in the spotlight.
The historic competition has also witnessed several centurions compiling phenomenal innings. Former Sri Lankan opener and batting icon Sanath Jayasuriya takes the cake when it comes to the batters with the most centuries in Asia Cup history. The explosive opener was a bowler's nightmare during his famed career, registering six tons in the continental tournament, with his best coming in the Asia Cup 2008 final against India.
His compatriot and former Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara holds second place in the illustrious list with four centuries to his name. Former Indian skipper and batting superstar Virat Kohli has registered four centuries in the ODI edition of the tournament, the joint-second most along with former Kumar Sangakkara.
Talking about the shortest format of the game, centuries have been hard to come by, with the competition only witnessing two centurions so far. Hong Kong's Babar Hayat became the first batter to register a century in the 20-over format of the Asia Cup when he smashed a 60-ball 122 against Oman in 2016.
It was a lonely stat at the top for the Hong Kong batter before Virat Kohli compiled a magical century, his first in the format, against Afghanistan in the 2022 edition of the competition. His majestic innings saw him break his century drought in international cricket.
