Getting dismissed on a nought becomes an embarrassing and forgettable moment for any batter in the game of cricket. No batter will ever want to return to the pavilion without making any contribution to the team. In a massive competition like Asia Cup, it becomes crucial for batters to be at their top form and deliver their best. However, records say that a few big names have performed disastrously in some of their games in the Asian tournament and made it to the unwanted list of scoring the most ducks.
Pakistan opener Salman Butt owns the record for scoring the most ducks in the continental championship with three zeroes in seven innings of seven matches. In the 2008 Asia Cup, Butt got out twice without opening his account. During the group match against Hong Kong, he got dismissed on the third delivery of the game. Another time when he threw his wicket on nil was against Sri Lanka in the Super Four match. On the first delivery of Pakistan’s innings, Chaminda Vaas cleaned him up. In the 2010 edition, the left-handed batter added another zero against Sri Lanka, and this time, Lasith Malinga got the better of him.
Along with Salman Butt, Lanka’s former legend Mahela Jayawardene is also an eminent batter on the list of the most ducks in the continental tournament. The stylish Sri Lanka batter also lost his wicket on zero thrice in the famed competition. Following Butt and Jayawardene, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Fakhar Zaman, Aamer Sohail, Shakib Al Hasan, Shahid Afridi, and Kumara Sangakkara are also some notable names who hold the second position on the most ducks’ chart. These players gave their wickets on zero twice in the tournament.
Zaman and Mendis made their debut in Asia Cup in the 2018 season held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Both batters failed miserably in the competition, and during their dismal campaign, they racked up a couple of ducks.
