Pakistan and Sri Lanka will co-host the forthcoming edition of the Asia Cup 2023, scheduled to kickstart on August 31. Defending champions Sri Lanka will look to come all guns blazing and add another title to their cabinet in the forthcoming edition.
With 15 editions of the Asia Cup played thus far, fans have witnessed numerous records getting tumbled, courtesy of some impressive performances. Among them is the captain with the most successful record in the ACC event.
With this, Pakistan’s Moin Khan has a 100 percent win record in his six appearances as skipper of the national team in the tournament. India’s Mohammad Azharuddin and Sri Lanka’s Angelo Matthews hold the record for the joint second-most wins in the history of the Asia Cup.
Both Matthews and Azharuddin have captained their respective sides on seven occasions, winning five times and losing twice with a win percentage of 71.42. Misbah Ul-Haq led the Men in Green in 10 matches, of which he obtained wins on seven occasions and lost thrice, maintaining a 70.00 percent win record.
Sri Lanka great Arjuna Ranatunga led his national team the most number of times in the history of the competition. In 13 appearances as skipper, Ranatunga won nine times, the joint-most by any skipper along with India’s legendary skipper MS Dhoni. Ranatunga maintained a winning record of 69.23 percent in his 13 matches for the Lankan Lions in Asia Cup.
Likewise, former India skipper MS Dhoni won as many times but in 14 matches, losing four and one match yielding no result. In the process, Dhoni has a collective win percentage of 64.28.
