The first edition of the ICC World Test Championship began in August 2019 and will be ending in June 2021. The final encounter will be played between India and New Zealand starting 18th June at the Ageas Bowl Stadium, Southampton. There have been many great performances by players in the ongoing cycle of WTC. In this article, we will be listing out five bowlers, who have taken the most number of wickets in the World Test Championship 2019-21.
5. Tim Southee – 51
New Zealand pacer Tim Southee stands at the fifth spot in the list of leading wicket-takers in the WTC. He has picked up 51 wickets from 10 matches at an average of 20.66 and a strike rate of 45.9. This includes three five-wicket hauls as well. Southee has been a key factor in helping the Kiwi team reach the finals of WTC. He was the player of the series against India in the two-match series held in 2020.
4. Nathan Lyon – 56
Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has picked up 56 wickets in 14 matches in the WTC. He has bowled at an average of 31.37 and a strike rate of 67.5. His aggregate includes four five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket haul with best innings figures of 6/49. The spinner was the highest wicket-taker for Australia in the championship.
3. Ravi Ashwin – 67
Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin displayed some terrific performances in the recent past. He picked up 67 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 20.88 and a strike rate of 46.9 in WTC. He took four fifers including the best bowling figures of 7/145. Ashwin also scored a century with the bat against England in Chennai Test, 2021.
2. Stuart Broad – 69
Stuart Broad is at the second spot in the tally of leading wicket-takers in WTC 2019-21. Broad has 69 scalps to his name in 17 games at an average of 20.08 and a strike rate of 43.4. He picked up two fifers and one ten-wicket haul with the best bowling figures of 6/31.
1. Pat Cummins – 70
Australian pacer Pat Cummins is the highest wicket-taker in the WTC 2019-21. He has taken 70 wickets in 14 matches with an average of 21.02 and a strike rate of 47.6. Despite being at the top, Cummins could take only one fifer in WTC. However, he was consistent with his bowling performance throughout the phase.
