Mr. Cricket Michael Hussey set to create history: Michael Hussey has been named the captain of the Prime Minister’s XI for the tour match against New Zealand in October at Manuka Oval ahead of the historic day-night Test match in Adelaide on November 27. The Kiwis will get a chance to prepare for that Test with a one-day match against a Hussey led side that will be played with a pink ball in Canberra. The day-night Test will be the third of a three-Test series on Australian soil this summer and the first to be played under lights with a pink Kookaburra ball.

The Left hander, who retired in 2013, after playing 79 Tests and 185 one-day internationals was picked late last year to be captain for the PM’s XI against England in January, but injury ruled him out and Chris Rogers took the role. After his appointment Hussey said “It’s a tremendous honour to be selected again to captain the Prime Minister’s XI. Having been selected last year, I was unable to play due to injury but I know how important this fixture is on the Australian cricketing calendar, and it is a great tradition.”

Hussey is yet to face the pink ball and said he had heard it was prone to swing more at night. Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland is excited that the Prime Minister’s XI match will again be held in the nation’s capital and endorsed Hussey as captain.

“Congratulations to Mike again on his appointment as captain. Many fans can look forward to him taking to the park in Canberra in October. The Prime Minister’s XI fixture has always been an important annual event on the Australian cricket calendar and we’re pleased this year that it will open our international season” said Sutherland. The Test series against New Zealand begins at the Gabba on November 5.
