MS Dhoni believes in young cricketers and this gives them the confidence to do better: Deepak Chahar

Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni unveil a new pacer almost every season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). From the likes of Sudeep Tyagi, Manprit Gony to Mohit Sharma, the team this time relied on uncapped Deepak Chahar as their lead fast bowler. He was given the responsibility of getting the team breakthroughs with the new ball and Chahar did justice to that.

He had to miss out a few matches due to a hamstring trouble but picked up 10 wickets in 12 matches and got CSK crucial wickets at the top. As the tournament progressed Chahar evolved as a bowler and soon became MS Dhoni’s, go-to man. Subsequently, he was called up in the India A squad for the tour of England.

Domestic success got IPL contract

The right-arm pacer credited his domestic success for getting him a contract with CSK.

“Last year, I got selected to play for Rising Pune Supergiant, but never got a chance to play on the field. So this year, when I got selected for Chennai Super Kings, I made sure to utilize this opportunity,” Chahar was quoted as saying by TOI.

Talking about Chennai captain MS Dhoni and the belief he had in the pacer’s abilities, he stated that the skipper’s faith gave him the much-needed confidence to do well even in tough situations.

Team atmosphere

He also revealed that the atmosphere in the CSK dressing room is very healthy and all the players – young and experienced, domestic and overseas laugh together and Dhoni takes care of them all. The veteran leader makes sure that the junior players in the team are comfortable and accompanies them most times to ensure they blend in with the unit.

“It is a lot of fun inside the dressing room where senior and junior players laugh together. Dhoni sir especially takes care of youngsters and always sits with us when senior players are sitting on the other table. He cracks jokes, makes fun of you and ensures that your morale is never low. He believes in young cricketers and this gives them the confidence to do better,” Chahar stated.
