Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was in a cheerful mood on Saturday and the reasons were obvious. The Super Kings bounced back from their defeat against Mumbai Indians to beat Kings XI Punjab to get back to winning ways. It was a clinical effort from the Super Kings as they showed once again why they are defending champions by successfully defending 160 runs against a team which has the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, David Miller, and others.
On a pitch were stroke-making was not easy at all, the Super Kings paced their innings brilliantly to post a competitive total of 160 for 3. Faf du Plessis laid the foundation for the challenging total by scoring a fine fifty in his first game of the season. Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu then provided the finishing touches by amassing as many as 44 runs in the final three overs. The score turned out to be more than enough in the end.
Kings XI Punjab started their pursuit in a disastrous fashion and lost Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal for just seven runs on the board. However, KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Ahmed added 110 runs for the third wicket to revive their team’s hopes. But the Super Kings came up with a brilliant effort in the death overs to restrict the Kings XI to just 138. After the game, Dhoni looked cheerful as he was in high spirits.
He thanked the Chennai crowd for the support before being involved in an adorable sprint with his teammates Imran Tahir and Shane Watson’s sons. The two boys were contemplating a sprint face-off before MS Dhoni came running in from behind and challenged the two. He even picked Tahir’s son in his hands while returning to the starting point.
