Team India is blessed to have two leaders in the team at a time. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni’s brains work together during the limited-overs encounters which has largely benefitted the team. The latter is at the fag end of his career and is contributing exceptionally well in developing the youngsters coming into the side. Irfan Pathan has termed Dhoni as the pillar of the Indian team while also acknowledging his contribution when he was the captain.

Irfan will be representing Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming domestic season. Apart from playing for the team, he will also mentor the youngsters. Recently, he was at the GGM Science College Ground where the camps of senior and U23 cricketers are being held. He spoke highly of Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly‘s captaincy styles while also refusing to compare them.

There is no comparison

“Mahi (MS Dhoni) is a pillar in Indian cricket team and the way he mentors on and off-field is laudable. There is no comparison of all the captains I have played with. Every era is different. What Ganguly did as a captain, it was a different scene and is always commendable,” he said while speaking in an interview during the camp according to the New Indian Express.

However, Pathan also believes that result-wise Dhoni has done wonders to Team India under his captaincy tenure. He is the only captain in the world to win all the three ICC trophies and was also at the helm when the team reached the numero uno position in Test cricket for the first time ever.

“But, what MS Dhoni did in result-wise either it was World Cup win or T20 World cup victory and other formats of cricket, was also praiseworthy,” he added.

The left-arm pacer also hailed the way Virat Kohli has been leading the side over the last few years. He thinks that the Indian team can go a long way under him. “It looks good when a captain cheers up and lifts the morale of the team. Virat himself is a class cricketer,” Pathan concluded.
