MS Dhoni regarded as the best Indian player in World Cup 2015 by fans: The Indian cricket team lost its ODI champion status in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 semi final with a 95 runs defeat in the hands of hosts Australia.

Along with the team their loyal and devoted fans back home look more depressed and disappointed, while some have accepted the fact that it was not their day on the semi final and the performance that young team put up, others have been critical of the Men In Blue as well.

Though many have criticized a few players for their below expectation and par performance on the important night, a national tabloid the Times of India conducted a poll on its website to determine the best Indian player from the World Cup 2015.

As per the statistics displayed on their website over 63,000 fans participated in the poll and while the results came out quite a few were surprised to see Indian skipper MS Dhoni top the list. Dhoni did not have an excellent world cup with the bat; as on most occasions the job was done by the top order while he was up to finish things whenever an opportunity came (except the semi final).

His inputs as the captain, a really pro-active one and also the way he keeps the wickets were also taken into account by fans while voting. The skipper received in all 31 percent of the total number of votes received and beat pacer Mohammed Shami by a margin of 2% votes to be termed the best Indian player in the World Cup 2015.

Shami who was the second leading wicket taker for India in the tournament, was one of the better players for the team in the tournament where he took 17 wickets in 7 matches. He received 29 % votes.

The three others who feature in the top 5 are opener Shikhar Dhawan at number 3 with 14% votes, India’s Vice-captain Virat Kohli is ranked 4^th as he received 10% of the total votes casted in the online poll. At number 5 are pacer Umesh Yadav and off spinner R Ashwin both of them have 4% votes each.
