MS Dhoni stumps Glenn Maxwell off Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling yet again
Maxwell becomes Chahal's bunny in the ongoing series.
An ODI match without a stumping from MS Dhoni is a rare occasion lately. The deadly combination of the Yuzvendra Chahal’s guile and MS Dhoni’s electric reflexes behind the stumps has fooled many batsmen recently. ‘The Big Show’, Glenn Maxwell, has faced the brunt of the deadly Indian combination in two consecutive matches.
During the ongoing India tour of Australia, Maxwell, apart from the two consecutive sixes he hit off Kuldeep Yadav in the Kolkata ODI, has looked uncomfortable against the spinners and especially against the leg spin of Yuzvendra Chahal.
Maxwell has now fallen victim to the guile of Chahal in all three games of the series, and it can be safely said that Maxwell is Chahal’s bunny in the ongoing series. In the first ODI in Chennai, while trying to heave Chahal and push the run rate upwards, Maxwell could only find Manish Pandey placed at Long-on.
In the second ODI at Kolkata, Chahal outfoxed Maxwell with his flight and almost nutmegged the batsmen. The ball lobbed for a while but it was the master behind the wicket who completed the stumping in a sensational manner.
In the third ODI, Australia was looking to gear up for the final assault, after the starts provided by David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steve Smith. Finch brought up his 8th ODI ton while Smith scored his 19th ODI half-century. The onus was then on the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Travis Head, Marcus Stoinis and others to take Australia to at least 330.
However, it was not to be, as Indian bowlers made a sensational comeback during the backend of the innings. Australia could only manage 59 runs and lost 4 wickets. Yet again, it was the lethal combination of Dhoni and Chahal which started the downward spiral of Australia as Maxwell was stumped for the second consecutive time in the series.
