IPL 2018: MS Dhoni visibly disappointed as Ravindra Jadeja drops two in a single over
They eventually lost the game by 6 wickets as KKR chased the total in the 18th over.
Sometimes even the best players can have a bad day in cricket. Everyone tries to give their 100 percent in order to win the match for his team. But it was not the best outing for one of the best fielders in the country Ravindra Jadeja who dropped a couple of easy catches of Sunil Narine on Thursday. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were thrashed by the hosts and the captain and the coach lamented the poor fielding as the reason for their loss. However, it was not only Jadeja as even others fumbled while fielding and the team was down on intensity during the course of the game.
CSK has posted a decent total of 177 runs after 20 overs after being invited to bat first by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But the small ground and a flat pitch meant that they had to bowl and field extremely well to restrict the team who were riding high on confidence. The Men in Yellow failed to do it and were handed over the crushing the defeat at the hands of Dinesh Karthik and his men who were clinical throughout.
Narine gets two chances in same over
It was important for CSK to keep the opening pair of KKR, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine, quiet and they started well by bowling to the plan and scalped the former. The rookie pacer KM Asif also employed the same tactics and kept Narine on his toes off his first four deliveries. The bowler bluffed the batsman as the shortish length delivery, the fifth ball of the over, was slapped straight to mid-off where Ravindra Jadeja was stationed. He dropped a straight-forward chance and failed to cling on in the second attempt too.
He had a chance at redemption off the very next ball as Narine was deceived by the pace and once again mistimed the loft straight to Jadeja. This time he timed his leap perfectly and reached the ball but couldn’t catch only to add to the frustration of the bowler and the skipper. The Caribbean batsman, who was on 6 then, rode his luck and pummelled 26 more runs to eventually get dismissed by the left-arm spinner on 32. If Jadeja had managed to catch one of those, the result might have been different as the pressure on KKR would’ve increased.
As it turned out, they got off to a blistering start and gunned down the chase in the 18th over itself.
