Mujeeb Ur Rahman starts his T20 blast campaign with a wicket maiden
Mujeeb had earlier this year made his IPL debut for Kings XI Punjab.
Afghanistan is soon going to get the tag ‘a land of spinners’. After 18-year-old Rashid Khan impressed fans and experts around the world with his mysterious leg-spin another teenage spinner in Mujeeb Ur Rahman has earned prominence. Rashid showed the world what Afghan spinners were capable of and Mujeeb having benefitted from that has carried the legacy forward. After making his IPL debut earlier this year, the 17-year-old recently made his maiden appearance for Hampshire in the T20 Blast.
In the South Group game Hampshire were playing Glamorgan and skipper Colin Ingram decided to bowl first on winning the toss. After using his pacers for the first three overs he decided to deploy his overseas spin resource next. Mujeeb bowls really well with the new ball as the hardness suits his style of bowling.
It was Glamorgan opener Usman Khawaja who faced him first up. Mujeeb bowled two dot balls and then fired in a flatter one onto the stumps. Khawaja didn’t pick the line and wanted to play across on the on-side. It was nowhere in his range of shot and as his bat swung for a big slog but the ball slipped past and crashed into his off-stump.
It was uprooted and Mujeeb had his hands up in celebration. The 17-year-old finished his first over in T20 Blast without conceding a run and it was a wicket-maiden in the fourth over of the game putting the Glamorgan batsmen under some pressure.

He ended his four overs with figures of 1/34 and the opponents could only manage to post 168 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Hampshire in their response were very ordinary as none of their top four managed to get into double digits. A lower order partnership between GK Berg (26) and Kyle Abbott (29) helped them get past the 100-run mark, however, the team was bowled out on 105 and lost the match by 63 runs.
