Mumbai Indians know how to make a comeback from difficult situations, they have done it before: Irfan Pathan
Mi have lost all the three games played so far.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan is positive about Mumbai Indians making a comeback in IPL 2022, even after the team has lost their first three games. However, Pathan feels that very soon, the Rohit Sharma-led franchise will be able to get the formation right and get going.
He said that five-time champions lack quality seamers on their side as Jasprit Bumrah is the only dependable bowler right now and added that they will have to work on the bowling attack and get a good combination in the team.
“Mumbai Indians know how to make a comeback from situations like these. They’ve done it in the past, back in 2014 and 2015. In IPL 2015, they were in a similar situation and came from behind to lift the title, but that team was a little different. This year, MI doesn’t have a bowler who can support Bumrah well. This is a major headache for the captain,” Pathan said on the Cricket Live show on Star Sports.
Mumbai will next face the Royal Challengers Bangalore as look they for ways to regain their form. They require a win to their name so as to keep it going in the tournament. Talking about MI’s batting line-up, Pathan said that the team has a strong batch of players who can get the game on track.
“MI’s batting still looks good as they have young Tilak Varma doing well, Suryakumar Yadav starred in his comeback game, and Ishan Kishan has been firing at the top. You hope Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard will also score runs as the tournament progresses but their bowling department looks weak, especially the pace attack. Traditionally, the pitches in Maharashtra have suited fast bowlers and if the seamers do their job well, then Murugan Ashwin will also return with better figures,” he added.
Suryakumar Yadav made his way back into the side after recovering from an injury and scored a half-century to mark his return. But the team has not been able to get the formation right. The players will have to unite together and work as a team so as to win their next game against RCB.
