Mumbai Indians owner Mukesh Ambani heads Forbes' list of 100 richest Indians

Owner of the Reliance Industries and IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, retained his top spot on the Forbes’ list of 100 richest Indians for the 11th successive year with a net worth of USD 38 billion.

Funded by the mammoth RIL, the brand valuation of the Mumbai Indians was found out to be around USD 100 million. Mumbai Indians are also the three-time IPL Champions over the period of last 10 seasons. The Rohit Sharma led side is also the two-time Champions League winners (2011, 2013)

Moreover, Ambani is not the only Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owner in the list of top 100 richest Indians according to Forbes. Mohit Burman, part of the Burman Clan, and head of the Britannia Industries, Ness Wadia, hold the 20th and 25th spot respectively. The two are joint owners of the Kings XI Punjab franchise.

The other prominent IPL franchise proprietor featuring in the list of top 100 richest Indians list is the head of Sunrisers Hyderabad Kalanithi Maran, owner of the Sun TV Networks, who fills the 29th spot.

KKR and RCB follow MI in terms of brand value

One of the most controversial owners in the last edition of the IPL, Rising Pune Supergiant proprietor Sanjiv Goenka occupies the 73rd place in the list. Sanjiv Goenka and cousin Rajiv Goenka are the lynchpins of the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group.

According to the data generated by global valuation and corporate finance advisory firm Duff & Phelps, the second highest in terms of brand evaluation amongst all the teams in IPL is the Shahrukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders’ with a net worth of USD 99 million.

Following KKR, it the Royal Challengers Bangalore who occupy the third position with net worth of USD 88 million. Adding more to the brand-valuation, come second with $99 million. Royal Challengers Bangalore come in at No.3 with brand valuation of $88 million. KXIP are valued at $41 million while SRH is valued at $56 million.
