Mushfiqur Rahim willing to sacrifice personal celebrations for nation's glory

Bangladesh Test skipper, Mushfiqur Rahim, is in no mood to fiddle around at the month. The veteran cricketer has set his sights on a historic series win against one of the top Test nations. Team Bangladesh is currently hosting Australia for a two-match Test series. They created history when they beat the mighty Aussies by 20 runs in the first Test recently.

This win marked their first ever win against Australia in the history of Test cricket. Needless to say, the magnitude of the win remains very high. Now, they have a chance to achieve something of greater magnitude. If they manage to win the second Test, they will, in essence, be whitewashing the Australian side.

Mushfiqur Rahim knows the importance of the second game and hence is willing to sacrifice his personal celebrations for the sake of the nation. He realises that the kind of happiness that the team has given to the fans with the superlative win is unmatched. The players are, thus, willing to sacrifice their option of celebrating Eid-al-Adha with their families this time around.

A sacrifice worth playing for

The festival, which is the second most auspicious festival in Islamic calendar, falls on September 2 this year. However, with the second Test commencing on September 4, the team will not get an opportunity to head back to their respective homes for the celebration. “I will miss my parents on Eid. Not only myself; all members of the team will miss their families because of the game. If we can give something to the nation by this sacrifice I think it’s a huge thing,” quoted Mushfiqur Rahim.

Meanwhile, veteran batsman Tamim Iqbal has expressed his desire to host the entire team on the occasion. He has reportedly invited them to his residence in Chittagong.
