Mustafizur Rahman returned to Bangladesh on April 25 prematurely ending his stay with the Sunrisers Hyderabad and his journey in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League to join his team-mates for a pre-Champions Trophy conditioning camp and Ireland tri-series. Rahman, who was awarded IPL emerging player of the season award in 2016, attributed improvement in his game and technique to the cash-rich league which gave him a lot of exposure.
But for now, IPL holds lesser importance to him as he is instead all geared up to take up the challenge of ODI cricket in the approaching tri-series in Ireland, which will be followed by the coveted Champions Trophy beginning in England on June 1. In this season of the IPL, Mustafizur wasn’t at his best and played just one game. But, in IPL 9 he was in great form and led the Sunrisers bowling attack from the front and picked up 16 wickets.
In his lone match this season he conceded 34 runs in 2.4 overs, below his usual fare. There were eight foreign players in the outfit and team management thus gave chances to the players who they considered best. It would be hard for a player to warm the bench in the dugout when his team is playing, but Mustafizur said that he tried to enjoy the time.
“Out of nine I played only one match. I didn’t play most of the matches and was out of the playing eleven. No doubt it would have been pleasing for me had I played most of the matches, but still I tried to stay like I was in the first season,” the Fizz said.
It is not easy for any player to regain full form right after an injury. It takes time to find the rhythm back and Mustafizur said he was aware of the same. But he will do his best to produce results in the upcoming assignments.
“I will try my best to give my hundred per cent if I get a chance to play in the coming tournaments. There were T20 matches in India but now I am going to play one-day cricket and I will try my best to give my all and learn from past mistakes. But I have full confidence in myself,” he said.
