'My head is held high,' tweets injured Jasprit Bumrah after being ruled out of SA Test series
In 12 Tests thus far, Bumrah has claimed 62 wickets at an average of 19.24 and a strike-0rate of 43.73.
Sports, like life, is full of uncertainty. And, cricket, off-course bores no exception to it. It tests you to the hilt when you least expect it to. It pushes you back whenever it feels you are getting ahead of yourself. It helps you embrace adversity. It helps you realize what it is when things go as per plan. And, seldom do things go as per plan. They never do. It’s like someone is listening to your plans, laughing and then writing a completely different story.
Tell me when was the last time that an Indian bowler excited you with his skills, talent, and temperament? Tell me when was the last time you moaned when an Indian bowler got injured? Or when was the last time all hell broke loose following an injury to a fast bowler before the start of a home season? Jasprit Bumrah can do that to you.
And, it seems like that we will have to wait for another few months to see Jasprit Bumrah bowl in a Test match on home soil. The fast bowler has suffered a minor stress fracture in his lower back, and will no longer be the part of the 3-match Test series against the Proteas early next month.
Jasprit Bumrah shares a heartfelt message on Twitter
As soon as the news broke, all hell broke loose on social media. #Bumrah, #Bumrahinjured were the trends that dominated Twitter. And, while the fans were discussing the impact of the injury, Jasprit Bumrah took to his Twitter account to post a message; one that sums up everything about the uncertainty of life and the unwarranted challenges it poses. The right-hander also expressed his gratitude towards the fans who wished for his speedy recovery.
It is almost surreal to think that it’s only been eighteen months since Jasprit Bumrah made his Test debut and how quickly he has gone on to become the spearhead of Indian fast bowling. The only Asian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia, and West Indies, the right-hander was in death-defying form in the recently concluded Test series in the Caribbean, claiming 13 wickets in 2 matches at an average of 9.23; one that included two five-wicket hauls and a hattrick.
In 12 Tests thus far, Bumrah has claimed 62 wickets at an average of 19.24 and a strike-0rate of 43.73. Vidarbha fast bowler Umesh Yadav has been called as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. Interestingly, Yadav has claimed the most number of wickets [50 wickets in 17 Tests at 29.86] by an Indian seamer at home since the start of 2016.
