NADA sends notice to five centrally contracted Indian cricketers; BCCI cites 'password glitch'

Five Indian cricketers who are centrally contracted to BCCI have been sent notices by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). This happens after the players failed to disclose their whereabouts. The list of players includes KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma. BCCI has cited “password glitch” as the reason for the delay

There are a total of 110 strong National Registered Testing Pool (NRTP) and all five of these cricketers are in it. It has been reported that NADA DG Navin Agarwal has confirmed that BCCI has sent an official explanation for the failure by the players to submit their whereabouts.

They have said that there has been a glitch with regards to password: NADA DG on BCCI’s statement over KL Rahul and others

“There are two ways to fill up the whereabouts form in the ADAMS (Anti Doping Administration & Management Systems) software. Either athlete does it himself or association fills it upon his or her behalf,” Agarwal said. “Now athletes in some discipline aren’t educated enough or do not have access to the internet and find themselves unable to handle the whereabouts clause of the ADAMS or upload the filled up form. They use the assistance of their concerned federations. So federations have accepted the responsibility of uploading their whereabouts,” Agarwal said, as reported by Hindustan Times.

After explaining this, Agarwal further went on to say that cricketers might also find the process difficult. He also stated that in a situation like this, the federation looking over the players must take responsibility for this.

He further mentioned that BCCI has given an explanation that will be looked into. “Well they have given an explanation which appears to be reasonable but a decision will be taken. They have said that there has been a glitch with regards to password in ADAMS. Now they have said that issue has been resolved,” Agarwal added.

BCCI though has stayed away from this kind of controversy. While there have been persistent attempts by the BCCI to safeguard its contracted players. For now, the password glitch seems like an obvious statement from the board. It should be noted that three such failures to disclose leads to one Anti Doping Rule Violation (ADRV), which could lead up to two years of suspension upon hearing.
