Nasir Hossain feels 80% effort from Bangladesh is enough to beat Australia
Bangladesh are one up in the series and oozing with confidence.
Talking about the steep decline in the viewership and quality of Test cricket, the tables turned when Bangladesh defeated Australia in the first Test of the two-match series. In their happy hunting ground, the Sher-e-Bangla International Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, the Tigers were always expected to perform well, but that does not take any credits away from Mushfiqur Rahim’s men.
From a nothing to lose position, the Bangladeshi bowlers rattled Australian batting lineup. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan attained a stature of a national hero for the day and the Bangladeshi cricketers were ecstatic after the victory. Their exceptional outing was praised by many cricket pundits, but the latest claim from all-rounder Nasir Hossain might not please Steve Smith & Co.
The all-rounder has declared that 80% effort from his team is enough to defeat the heavyweights Australia in any given condition. “We have great opportunities. Definitely, we have played good cricket in the first match and managed to win it. If we can play according to our merit, even if we can give our 80% effort then we are very much capable to beat Australia in any condition,” he said.
The players are more devoted now
While Nasir’s claims might raise a few eyebrows, there is no arguing about the fact that Bangladeshi cricket has improved considerably over the past few years. The players are determined to make a mark in world cricket and will not accept the tag of ‘novices’ anymore. Though the Bangladeshi people celebrated the festival of Eid on Saturday, Nasir and his fellow mates were involved in uncompromising training sessions.
When he asked about how this major change in their cricket was brought about the 25-year-old replied “The team went through many changes. And these changes brought change in our way of thinking. The players are more devoted now. Everyone do the hard work. Obviously, there is a lot of changes.”
