Natwest T20 Blast – 27th May 2016 Round Up

Natwest T20 Blast games on Friday saw few International stars and few England players coming after IPL stints. Here we look at what all happen during the 5 games took place on Friday Night in the Natwest T20 Blast:

Lancashire v Durham at Old Trafford, Manchester:

Martin Guptill, who made his debut for Lancashire started off on a good note scoring 72 off just 46 balls with 10 fours and a six after Durham asked Lancashire to bat first. Hosts struggled with the bat as no one supported Guptill. Jos Buttler continued his poor form from IPL scoring just 10. Usman Arshad and Barry McCarthy picked 3 wickets each to restrict Lancashire to 149/8.

Durham got off to a flyer as their openers scored with a strike rate of about 250. Mark Stoneman got out for 13 off 5 balls but Phil Mustard scored 46 off just 18 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Graham Clark and Michael Richardson scored 36 and 34 respectively as Durham chased down 150 in just 15 overs losing just 4 wickets.

Northamptonshire v Derbyshire at County Ground, Northampton:

Wes Durston and Chesney Hughes gave a good start for Derbyshire putting on a 74-run stand for the 2nd wicket in just 6 overs. Durston got out after scoring 47 off 24 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes while Hughes scored 46 in 29 balls. Derbyshire lost their way as they collapsed to 151/7 in 15.2 overs from being 140/3 in 13.4 overs. However, Tom Poyton scored 28 runs in the last 2 overs to push the team score to 195/7. Poyton remained unbeaten on 37 off 21 balls.

Richard Levi and Joshua Cobb gave a brilliant start for Northampton by putting on a 90-run stand. Cobb got out for 35 while Levi scored 58 in just 37 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Carter picked 3 wickets in space of 2 overs as the game headed towards a close finish. Steven Crook ensured a 3-wicket win for his side with an unbeaten 33.

Middlesex v Hampshire at Uxbridge Cricket Club Ground:

Dawid Malan went berserk against Hampshire after Middlesex were put into bat. Malan smashed a brilliant 93 in just 48 balls with 10 fours and 5 sixes. Adam Voges and James Franklin chipped in with 23 and 22* respectively as Middlesex finished at 195/6. While all bowlers were on the receiving end, Gareth Andrew recorded figures of 3-0-19-2 while Shahid Afridi also did well with figures of 4-0-27-2.

Hampshire started well with Adam Wheater scoring 30 off 15 balls with 5 fours and a six. However from 55/1, they slipped to 96/8. Sean Ervine got out for a duck while Shahid Afridi was run out on 8. Liam Dawson scored 46 off just 29 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours only to take Hampshire to 126 before they were bowled out in 16th over.

Warwickshire v Worcestershire at Edgbaston, Birmingham:

Home team Warwickshire started off well after being put into bat by Worcestershire. Openers Ian Bell and Sam Hain scored boundaries regularly in powerplay as Warwickshire were 58/1 in 6 overs. However, they slowed down in middle overs scoring just 47/2 in next 10 overs. Ian Bell hit a four and six in the 17th over and got out eventually after scoring a 57-ball 66 with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. 34 runs came off 17th and 18th overs but the last two yielded just 16 as Warwickshire finished at 155/7.

Worcestershire lost in form Kohler-Cadmore, captain Mitchell early. A quick reflex catch from Evan sent back Joe Clarke as well. With their team struggling at 45/3, Alexei Kerveeze and Brett D’Oliveria put on a 53-run stand before Kerveeze got out after a 29-ball 40. Ross Whiteley shared a 57-run stand with Brett for the 5th wicket before getting out with scores level. D’Oliveria didn’t waste any time as he hit one down the ground in the final over to finish the game. He remained unbeaten on 62 which came off just 38 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Yorkshire v Leicestershire at Headingley, Leeds:

After winning the toss, Yorkshire invited visiting team Leicestershire to bat first. Mark Cosgrove and Kevin O’Brien chipped in with 20 and 21 respectively after Mark Pettini got out for a duck in the first over. Ben Raine rescued his team with a 48 while Pakistani batsman Umar Akmal scored just 8. However, Neil O’Brien’s 39 off just 21 balls with 4 sixes and Lewis Hill’s unbeaten 24 which had 3 sixes in 10 balls helped Leicestershire post 174/7.

Yorkshire kept losing wickets against tight bowling of Leicestershire. Ben Raine and Kevin O’Brien picked up 3 wickets each as Yorkshire bowled out for 120. Will Rhodes’ 45 was the only notable contribution for Yorkshire with the bat.
