New Zealand International and Otago paceman Neil Wagner brought into notice a relatively unsought after clash of the Plunket Shield match against Canterbury with a cheeky runout.

After delivering a short-pitched delivery of right-handed Tim Johnston around the wicket, the batsman could only fend off the ball down the ground to safety.

The ball was in the vicinity of the batsman, so Johnston tried to offer some help to the bowler by trying to reach for it out of the crease. However, Neil Wagner, being the cunning cricketer he is, found it as an opportunity to dismiss Johnston who was still out of his crease and dislodged the bails with his throw.

The incident occurred during the first day of the match being hosted at Christchurch on Monday, October 23. The Kiwis forever have been known for playing within the spirit of the game and such run outs may fall within the realms of ‘cheating’ as from the video evidence, it is clear that the batsman was offering help to the bowler in the run-up.

After a gaze to the third umpire, Johnston embarrassed moved towards the dressing room.

Here’s the video:

In the first innings of the match, Canterbury could only manage a total of 155 on the board as all Otago bowlers chipped in with vital wickets. Pollard was the only batsman who impressed in the innings with the bat as he scored a half century.

Meanwhile, Otago in reply clinched a vital lead after putting 218 on the board, powered by the innings from Wilson and Craig down the order. Johnston and Coburn picked up three wickets each to keep the visitors humble.

However, the home side came up with a better performance in the second innings, as they try to post a challenging total in front of the visitors with six wicket in hand.
