Netherlands are set to host Scotland in a two-match ODI series at the Hazelaarweg Stadion in Rotterdam. The two sides will play ODI cricket after over 1.5 years and would be determined to emerge victorious. While Scotland last played an ODI in December 2019, Netherlands did in June 2019. The Dutch team, however, has been playing T20Is and is in the groove of white-ball cricket. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this series will be played in a bio-secure bubble, and no spectators will be allowed in the stadium.

Speaking of the form of the two sides, Netherlands recently featured in a T20I tri-series where they lost to Nepal in the final. However, they have a lot of positives to take from the tournament. On the other hand, this will be Scotland’s first international game since December 2019 and coming together as a unit will be a challenge for them. Moreover, defeating the Dutch side at their home won’t be easy.

With the series comprising just two games, there’s no room for putting a foot wrong. Hence, both sides must identify their strongest playing XI ahead of the first ODI. Although Scotland don’t have a lot of game time under their belt, they have named an experienced squad with skipper Kyle Coetzer and his deputy Richard Berrington in the side. The likes of Calum Macleod, Matthew Cross and George Munsey have also done well in international cricket and would be critical to the visitors’ success in the series.

On the other hand, Pieter Seelaar will lead Netherlands, and he has a point to prove against the potent Scottish side. Max O’Dowd, who recently smashed his maiden T20I hundred, would want to make a mark in this format as well. Bas de Leede and Ben Cooper are the other Netherlands players to watch out in the batting department, while Sebastiaan Braat and Paul van Meekeren will have the onus with the ball in hand.
