New Zealand continued their successful run at home in the ODI format with a close 3-wicket win in the first game of the 5-match ODI series against England. The visitors put on 284/8 on the board banking on the fifties from Joe Root (71) and Jos Buttler (79) on a slow Hamilton track. The home team were reduced to 27/3 before a huge partnership between Ross Taylor and Tom Latham (79) guided them towards a win. Taylor departed for a 113-run knock when the Kiwis needed 41 runs in 25 balls. Mitchell Santner took his side home with a 27-ball 45 that included four sixes.
