New Zealand levelled the 5-match T20I series against England as they recorded a 21-run win during the 2nd T20I played on Sunday. Martin Guptill’s 28-ball 41 at the top and Jimmy Neesham’s 22-ball 42 in the death overs helped the Kiwis post 176/8 in their 20 overs. Only three players managed to score more than 30 for England who kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The visiting were eventually bowled out for 155 in the final over of the game.

All the statistical highlights from New Zealand’s 21-run win against England in Wellington:

New Zealand’s new fortress:

6 – New Zealand won each of their last six T20I matches at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. Their last defeat in a T20I at this venue came in 2013 against England who chased down the target of 140 without losing a wicket.

The six consecutive T20I wins at this venue are the most for New Zealand at any ground in this format. Only Pakistan (7 in Harare) won more than six consecutive T20Is at a specific venue.

Morgan @ 300:

302 – Eoin Morgan became only the 8th player to hit 300 sixes in International cricket. Morgan completed 300 International sixes in 322 innings; the 3rd fewest innings needed by any player. Only Shahid Afridi (295) and Rohit Sharma (301) hit their 300 International sixes in fewer innings than Morgan.

Jordan @ 50:

52 – Number of wickets for Chris Jordan across 41 matches in the T20I format. He is only the 3rd player to claim 50 T20I wickets for England after Stuart Broad (65) and Graeme Swann (51).

A first ball dismissal for Bairstow:

3 – Jonny Bairstow became only the 3rd England player to be dismissed on the first ball of team’s innings. Joe Denly got out to Charles Langeveldt on the first ball of the 2009 Johannesburg T20I.

Jason Roy recorded two such instances – while batting first in the 2015 Sharjah T20I against Aamer Yamin and while chasing during the 2017 Chester-le-Street T20I in the bowling of Jerome Taylor.

Not so great debut for Mahmood:

1/46 – The 46 runs conceded by Saqib Mahmood are the 2nd most runs by any player on T20I debut for England. James Anderson had figures of 1/64 during his debut in the 2007 Sydney T20I against Australia.

Fielding records for Guptill and Grandhomme:

4 – Colin de Grandhomme claimed four catches during New Zealand’s innings; only the 12th fielder to take four catches in a T20I match. De Grandhomme became only the 2nd player to take four catches in a T20I for New Zealand after Corey Anderson (vs South Africa in 2012).

45 – Martin Guptill now has taken the most catches in the T20I format for New Zealand. With the two catches in the 2nd T20I, Guptill went past Ross Taylor’s 44 catches. Only David Miller (50) and Shoaib Malik (50) claimed more catches as a fielder in T20Is than Guptill.

No big partnerships:

331 – A total of 331 runs were aggregated by both teams in this game; the 3rd most runs in a T20I without a fifty-run stand. The last year’s Colombo T20I between Sri Lanka and England witnessed 344 runs while the 2008 Auckland T20I also between the Kiwis and England team aggregated 336 with a highest partnership of 40.
