Ross Taylor has been such an integral part of the New Zealand side in the past years. His ability to read the game with tons of experience makes him a valuable asset to the side. A couple of days back Taylor played one of the finest knocks in the history of ODI against England when he took his side home despite carrying an injury.

First of many

New Zealand’s next assignment is the test series against England which starts with a day-night test in Auckland. Taylor, who picked up an injury in the ODI series was declared fit o play in the opening day-night Test. The reoccurrence of a quad injury forced Taylor to miss the one-day international series decider. Taylor has amassed over 6000 runs in 83 matches for New Zealand. In this process, he has scored 17 tons and 28 half centuries which clearly proves that he is the senior most player in the squad.

“He’s good to go so that’s great news for us. Roscoe has played beautifully every time he’s walked out to the crease, the calmness at the crease, the confidence. It’s reflected in how much success he’s had this year. It’s important for us as a team that he’s there.” Williamson told reporters on Wednesday.

The day-night test match will be the first of its kind in New Zealand. The Black Caps were a part of the inaugural day-night test match which they eventually lost to Australia. The evening session is the most difficult part of the day-night test and the winners of that session usually win the game.

Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of the series due to an injury and Todd Astle is set to replace him. BJ Watling is also set to make a comeback into the squad. New Zealand needs to be at their best to have a chance against England who will head into the series with a full-strength side.
