India completed a whitewash in the 5-match T20I series against New Zealand with yet another win in a thriller. KL Rahul (45 off 33) gave good start yet again while the stand-in captain Rohit Sharma carried on until he got retired hurt in the 17th over scoring a 41-ball 60.

Shreyas Iyer’s laboured 31-ball 33* saw India being limited to 163/3 in the 20 overs. Tim Seifert (50) and Ross Taylor (53) added 99 runs in only 56 balls to bring down the required rate below seven after they lost three early wickets. However, Jasprit Bumrah, in his 50th T20I, produced a match-winning performance of 4-1-12-3 as India sneaked in a 7-run victory.

The first-ever 5-0 series win:

5-0 – India became the first side to whitewash an opponent in a five or more match T20I series in Men’s cricket. Three teams have managed to win a T20I series 5-0 in Women’s cricket – Zimbabwe Women against Namibia in January 2019, Namibia Women against Botswana in April 2019 and India Women against West Indies in November 2019.

India continues to be unbeaten in T20Is:

9* – India have not lost any of their last 9 matches in the T20I cricket; their longest unbeaten streak in the T20I format. Overall, only three teams have managed to go through 10+ consecutive T20Is without a defeat in Men’s cricket – Australia (12 in 2009-2010), Afghanistan (12 in 2018-2019 and 11 in 2016-2017) and Papua New Guinea (11 in 2019).

Rohit Sharma goes past Virat Kohli:

25 – Rohit Sharma became the first player with 25 fifty-plus scores in T20I cricket. He has scored four hundreds and 21 fifties in this format. Rohit went past Virat Kohli’s 24 fifty-plus scores with the 60-run knock.

14029 – Runs Rohit Sharma aggregated in his International cricket thus far. He became the 8th Indian to complete 14000 runs in International Cricket when he got to his individual score of 31.

A record-breaking series for KL Rahul:

224 – Runs KL Rahul has scored in this 5-match T20I series; the first Indian to score 200+ runs in a bilateral series in Men’s T20I cricket. Virat Kohli’s 199 runs in the 2016 3-match T20I series against Australia were the previous most.

In fact, these are the 2nd most runs in a bilateral T20I series behind the 233 runs by Francis Damiao Couana of Mozambique against Malawi in the last year’s 7-match T20I series.

224 – KL Rahul’s 224 runs in this series are the most by a wicketkeeper in a T20I series/tournament in Men’s cricket. He went past the 222 runs by Craig Kieswetter and Mohammad Shahzad during 2010 WT20 and 2016 WT20 respectively.

T20I record for Jasprit Bumrah:

7 – Number of maiden overs by Jasprit Bumrah in his T20I career; the most by any player in Men’s T20I cricket. Bumrah and Nuwan Kulasekara were tied on six maidens prior to the match.

Rohit-Rahul pair continues to shine:

18 – Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul became only the 8th pair in Men’s cricket and the 13th across Men’s and Women’s cricket with 1000 partnership runs in Twenty20 Internationals. They completed 1000 runs as pair in 18 partnerships; the quickest to do so. The previous fastest to 1000 T20I partnership runs as a pair was Kane Williamson and Martin Guptill in 19 innings.

Ross Taylor @ 100:

100 – Ross Taylor became the first player from New Zealand to feature in 100 T20I matches in Men’s cricket. Overall, only two players have featured in 100+ T20Is in Men’s cricket before Taylor – Shoaib Malik (113) and Rohit Sharma (108).

Shivam Dube delivers the worst over by an Indian:

34 – The 34 runs conceded by Shivam Dube in the 10th over of New Zealand’s innings are the 2nd most runs scored in an over in the Men’s T20Is. Yuvraj Singh leads the list with 36 runs which he scored with six sixes off Stuart Broad in the 2017 WT20 match.

34 – The 34-run over by Shivam Dube is now the most expensive over recorded in International cricket by an Indian bowler. The previous most was 32 runs by Stuart Binny against West Indies in the 2016 Lauderhill T20I.

Sixes galore for India:

35 – Indian batsmen hit 35 sixes across five matches in this T20I series; the 2nd most by them in any T20I series/tournament. They hit 38 sixes across the seven matches during the 2007 WT20. The 33 sixes during the recent home T20I series against West Indies were the previous highest number of sixes by India in a bilateral T20I series.

706 – KL Rahul’s 2nd six in the match was the 700th six hit by the Indian team in T20I cricket. They are only the 4th side to smash 700 T20I sixes – New Zealand (772), West Indies (766) and Australia (709).
