The next job is to win against RCB: Carlos Brathwaite
West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite played a vital role as Delhi Daredevils brought up a crucial victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad last night at Raipur. While the Sunrisers might not have been affected much by the result, the match was of utter importance for the home side. Delhi needed to win two in two to make it to the playoff. Now that they have won one they need to back it up against the batting heavy Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.

Speaking to the iplt20.com after the match, the all-rounder hailed the overall team effort in the match and spoke on the ‘horses for courses’ approach of the franchise and also pointed out their next target. When asked about his own effort in the match, Brathwaite said it was a team effort that took them to the victory.
A modest Brathwaite refused to take credit for his fielding abilities and said, “The first six overs they were batting like slippery eels. So it was nice that the impact that it had to get the run out. (But I) must commend the boys and the overall team effort in the middle overs, not only the bowlers but also the effort in the outfield. Cutting the twos and cutting runs like that, it forced them to hit over the top and it is a very big boundary. So very well done to the fielders, very good effort by the entire team.”
Delhi rested their key player Chris Morris and fielded Brathwaite in the match instead. Speaking further on the ‘horses for courses’ approach, Brathwaite said it is all about getting the chance and performing whenever the opportunity comes.
“It was just a matter of playing in; no matter what plan the coach has, whether it is ‘horses for courses’ or a settled playing eleven, it doesn’t matter if the team is into it each and everyone plays their best game each and every time you step out on the field. We want to do our best – that’s how it goes. Ups and downs are there, you will win some and you will lose some. Everyone enjoys it on and off the field (and) that is key to success. We are backing our processes and letting the results take care of themselves,”

Delhi now have a stiff ask ahead of themselves. They need to beat RCB in their final match and then watch the net run rates to fall in place for them. The all-rounder said there is just one more result that they need to take care of. “(We have) one more result to take care of itself (and) we can make it to the playoffs,”
He also hailed the Indian Premier League as a mega event and clearly stated that they have set their sights on the RCB now. “Any tournament that has six teams fighting for four spots is a champion tournament in my opinion,” quoted Brathwaite.
“The next part of the job is to win on the 22nd May against RCB. That is again a tough challenge as well and once we control what we can control then everything else can take care of itself,” he concluded.
