Nidahas Trophy 2018: Match 2, BAN vs IND - Who Said What
Indian team maintained their unbeaten run against Bangladesh in the shortest format of the game and the streak is now 6-0.
Team India after suffering a surprising defeat in the first match bounced back to claim their first win in the Nidahas Trophy 2018. It was Rohit Sharma who won the toss and asked Bangladesh to bat first. His bowlers were up on the money today and kept the Bangladeshi batsmen in check constantly.
They managed to post 139 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets with major contributions from Liton Das (34) and Sabir Rahman (30). Among the bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat picked up three while Vijay Shankar got a couple, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shardul Thakur shared one apiece.
Sharma got out early in the small chase but Shikhar Dhawan continued his rampant form. He scored his second half century after posting 90 in the first match. He added 55 runs to the total and was the highest run-scorer in the match. Suresh Raina scored 28 but was dismissed in a disappointing manner while Manish Pandey finished the job for the team with his 19-ball 27 as Team India got home with 8 balls to spare.
Thus the Indian team maintained their unbeaten run against Bangladesh in the shortest format of the game and the streak is now 6-0.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma said:
It was a great performance – something that was expected from us. Till the last ball of the game was bowled, it was clinical. We looked into what went wrong against Sri Lanka and we thought hitting back of a length was a good option. We wanted them to go after the long boundaries. I thought the bowlers executed their plans really well. Came out and did what was asked. We kept it simple. We need to improve out catching. We want to get better as a fielding side every game we play. We are much better than that. Hopefully we won’t make the same mistakes again.
Man of the Match Vijay Shankar said:
I’ve been looking forward to this. Been working very hard and really happy to be winning this. I’ve been working hard on my bowling over the last few years and bowling is something that has given me something extra in my game. Playing with this team is a dream and everyone in the dressing room is very supportive.
Bangladesh skipper Mahmadullah said:
It’s obvious that we didn’t bat well. We should’ve scored a lot more runs, probably 30 more runs. They executed their plans very well but we should have found ways to make more runs. We need to rotate the strike more often. The dot balls created a lot of pressure. I think we are just one win away from getting a boost. We’re still searching for it and I think we’ll get it.
