No pressure on us to play Jasprit Bumrah or Hardik Pandya in all games: Rohit Sharma

Workload management has become the talk of the town as the players brace up for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The players will hardly get ample time to recover from the fatigue before they fly to England for the all-important World Cup. Unsurprisingly, the players themselves will be looking to take enough rest and avoid getting injured ahead of the mega-event set to start on May 30.

And now Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has cleared that it would be up to the players in the league to take care of their own workload. Apart from him, Mumbai Indians have two of India’s most crucial members – Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. While Bumrah is likely to lead the pace attack in England, the latter is more than likely to be preferred as the allrounder ahead of Vijay Shankar.

Rohit has now stated that there is no such pressure from the team management to play the likes of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah in all the games throughout the tournament.

Just like the Indian team, both the players are crucial to the Mumbai Indians’ fortunes too. The three-time champions had a poor outing last season when they finished fifth. But while they would be desperate to bounce back this season, Rohit has made it clear that players’ workload will be of utmost priority.

“I totally agree and I understand that every player has to care of their own workload. Depends on body to body also, everybody is not the same. And all of us, all the players who are in the reckoning have played a lot of cricket in the last 6 months whether its domestic cricket or international cricket. All of them have played a lot of cricket so individual discipline comes into play here,” Rohit Sharma was quoted as saying by Mirror Now.

Free hand from the team-management

Rohit Sharma insisted that the franchise has given the players a free hand to take a call on their availability for the games while confirming that the team is under no pressure to play Bumrah and Hardik Pandya in all the games.

“I can’t speak of other franchise but Mumbai Indians have given us a free hand. If somebody has any issues with the body, they can be rested so there is no pressure on us to play Bumrah or Hardik in all games. It is on the captain to decide and the coach, we will decide and if someone is not feeling well, end of the story. If they are not feeling well they can’t play,” Rohit said.
