Running the nonstriker out is a gesture that has always been debated. Also known as Mankading, a bowler generally indulges in this act when a batter tries to gain a few extra yards by coming out of his crease even before the bowler delivers the ball.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has even amended the rules, and now if a bowler dismisses the non-striker in this fashion, it will not be considered as an unfair play but will be called a runout. “Law 41.16-running out the non-striker- has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair Play) to Law 38 (Runout). The wording of the Law remains the same,” read the statement released by the MCC.

In an encounter between the Punjab Lions Nicosia and the PAK I Care Badalona sides in the European Cricket League (ECL), an incident occurred where the non-striker ran more than halfway down the pitch, and the bowler stopped his runup and pulled out of the delivery. He did not whip the bails at the non-striker’s end but instead spoke to the umpire regarding the incident.

As far as the match goes, the PAK I Care Badalona side won the match, beating the Punjab Lions Nicosia outfit in a comfortable manner, with 13 deliveries in the kitty. Batting first, the Punjab Lions Nicosia outfit posted a total of 81 runs on the board.

Tejwinder Singh was the wrecker in chief with the willow in hand for the Nicosia outfit. Singh smashed a whirlwind 27 at a strike rate in excess of 200 to help his side post a decent total in their 10-over quota.

However, Muhammad Babar stood up for the Badalona side and helped them sail past the target. Babar single-handedly scored a blistering 20-ball 42 for his side and helped them past the finish line with more than two overs in the kitty.
