'If IPL or TNPL can be organized, why not this?' - North Mumbai Panthers owner writes to MCA regarding halted Mumbai T20 league
Mumbai T20 league was started by MCA in 2017.
Owner of one of the franchises in the Mumbai T20 League, Rajdip Gupta, has penned a letter to Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) office bearers to know the current situation of the MCA-run franchise T20 league.
It is to be noted that MCA was not able to conduct the T20 league due to the Covid-19. However, with the situation returning to normal, North Mumbai Panthers owner Rajdip Gupta wanted to know the reason behind not resuming its annual tournament.
We have invested heavily, but want to know the stand on MCA: Gupta on Mumbai T20 League
“I would like to know, in the capacity of team owner, What is the current status of conducting the Mumbai T20 league this year? If IPL or TNPL can be organized, why not Mumbai T20? We joined the vision of MCA to promote young cricketers by giving them a world-class platform to showcase their talent,” Gupta was quoted by Indian Express.
Five years ago, Maharashtra Cricket Association decided to have its own league based on the structure of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL). To note, MCA has gained a good profit from the T20 league. However, there are no developments post the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the owners wanted to know MCA’s plans for their league.
“My concern is that there has been no update or progress related to Mumbai T20 in the last six months. We invested heavily and are still keen to support further, but I would like to know the vision of MCA with this league,” Gupta further wrote seeking clarity from the MCA side.
Since the beginning of the Mumbai T20 league, many exciting talents including Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have made a name. The tournament also provided Shivam Dube with a platform to showcase his talent. As a result, the all-rounder also featured in the Indian Premier League and later on made his debut for India as well.
